MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA TO HOST “UNCORKED” WEEKEND IN FALL

MONTEREY, CA – Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has joined forces with Club Auto Sport to present “Uncorked” Sept. 12-13, a two-day showcase that will be free for spectators and open to the public for a community appreciation weekend. “Uncorked” will give the community a preview of what the track will feature next year.

“The community can enjoy Monterey’s world renowned recreational facilities,” said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “Spectators and drivers alike can take advantage of the unique opportunity to experience a race in the driver’s seat or as a passenger in an exotic vehicle. It’s a teaser of what’s to come in 2010 at the track.”

Race groups include historic stock cars, Open-Wheel Formula Libre, Formula Mazda Challenge, Porsche Racing Club, historic production racing motorcycles up to 1972, vintage superbike motorcycles up to 1982 and an open race group for advanced level drivers with track experience. “We can’t think of a better venue for motor sports enthusiasts to partake in a weekend of sun, sound, racing, and food,” said Ralph Borelli, co-founder of Club Auto Sport. “Opening Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to the public at no charge, or “uncorking it” as we like to say, will be fun for all. Interested drivers should visit out Web site for all the details at clubautosport.net”

In an effort to promote the expansion of clean transportation, Club Auto Sport will host an Alternative Fuels Pavilion in the paddock where companies and organizations producing and supporting clean energy can showcase their environmentally friendly technologies. Groups from the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Network (EVIN), EMS, Saba Motors, San Jose State University and the California Highway Patrol will demonstrate the practical application of their cutting edge vehicles both on and off the track. “Spectators will be able to learn about alternative transportation solutions, whether it be an entirely electric motorcycle or an alternative fueled passenger car,” said Bob Guimarin, president of EVIN.

The weekend will also feature the charity event “Ride of your Life.” Club Auto Sport will host bidding for the chance to be driven around the track in a Bugatti Veyron, McLaren F1, Richard Petty Pontiac Grand Prix stock car, Sterling Marlin stock car, and a ride with former Formula One racecar driver and Indianapolis 500 winner Danny Sullivan. This is a once in a lifetime experience to be a passenger in one of these unique cars and experience the thrill of raw speed.

All proceeds from the “Ride of Your Life” event will benefit the event’s official charity, the SPCA for Monterey County. Bidding for these experiences will occur online through eBay and a live auction at the event on the evening of Sept. 12.
